Description
Raw Crystals – Natural Decorative Stones
Finish: Raw and unpolished
Typical Piece Weight: Approximately 80–100g
Our Raw Crystals provide a simple way to add natural colour, texture and geological detail to terrariums and invertebrate enclosures. Each piece comes in its natural rough form, with no artificial polish, resin coating, dye or chemical surface treatment.
These substantial natural stones work particularly well in bioactive, woodland, tropical and display setups. Their irregular shapes pair naturally with moss, bark, leaf litter, plants and other habitat materials, making them easy to incorporate into naturalistic hardscapes.
Available varieties include Green Aventurine, Tiger’s Eye, Amethyst, Moss Agate, Rose Quartz, Labradorite and Sodalite.
Natural Raw Stone
Our Raw Crystals are genuine natural mineral pieces rather than manufactured enclosure decorations. Each stone retains its own natural shape, texture, colour and mineral structure, so no two pieces will ever look exactly the same.
Natural variation may include differences in colour, translucency, veining, crystal formation, pattern and surface texture. These differences form part of the character of raw mineral stone rather than representing faults.
The minerals in this range are hard and stable under normal terrestrial enclosure conditions. They are effectively non-water-soluble and act as decorative hardscape rather than an active substrate ingredient.
Unlike limestone, calcite or aragonite, these crystals are not intended to provide calcium or deliberately alter substrate pH.
Suitable For
Raw Crystals can add structure and visual interest to a wide range of suitable terrestrial enclosures, including setups for isopods, millipedes, beetles, cockroaches, stick insects, mantids, spiders, scorpions, centipedes and terrestrial snails.
They work especially well within planted, naturalistic and bioactive displays where natural materials form the main hardscape.
Always consider the needs of the individual species and position heavier stones securely.
Available Crystal Varieties
Green Aventurine
Green Aventurine is a quartz-rich natural stone with attractive green colouration and subtle variation between pieces. Its earthy tones work particularly well alongside moss, bark and woodland-style substrates.
Tiger’s Eye
Tiger’s Eye combines golden-brown colouration with distinctive natural banding. Many pieces display the characteristic reflective effect known as chatoyancy, which changes as the viewing angle moves.
Amethyst
Amethyst is a naturally purple variety of quartz. Individual pieces can range from pale lilac through to deeper violet shades, making it a strong focal point against darker substrates.
Moss Agate
Moss Agate is a form of chalcedony known for its green, brown and moss-like natural inclusions. Its organic-looking patterns make it particularly effective in planted and forest-style enclosures.
Rose Quartz
Rose Quartz displays soft pink colouration that varies naturally between pieces. It contrasts particularly well with dark substrate, bark and green planting.
Labradorite
Labradorite is a darker feldspar mineral known for the coloured flashes that some pieces display when viewed from different angles. These may include blue, green, gold and other iridescent tones.
Sodalite
Sodalite typically displays rich blue colouration with natural white, grey or darker veining. The strong contrast makes it particularly useful as a feature stone within naturalistic displays.
Preparation and Use
Rinse and scrub each Raw Crystal thoroughly with clean water before adding it to an enclosure. Do not use soap, detergent, disinfectant or other household cleaning products.
Heavy stones should always sit securely. For burrowing species, avoid balancing large pieces loosely on deep substrate where animals could excavate underneath them and cause the stone to shift.
Naturalistic Hardscape
Raw Crystals add structure without introducing brightly coloured plastic or artificial ornaments into an enclosure. Their irregular surfaces and natural forms can create visual boundaries, shaded areas and interesting features around plants, wood and substrate.
Because the stones remain unpolished, they blend particularly well into naturalistic setups. Their natural colour can still provide a strong focal point without making the enclosure feel artificial.
You can use a single statement piece or combine several crystal varieties to create a more detailed geological display.
